I don't think it is this drastic... there is definitely think Apple has the potential for great success but I am not convinced this generation is going to do it. Normally most products need some maturity time before they perfect somethings. I have not seen all the spec's but expect some good things. I have some doubts about this model and the new release. And, lets keep in mind, it is a phone first. Business drive most of the sales of the high end phones and most companies are not running OS X. Perhaps they should and maybe will... but currently are not. Why I, personally, would rather they did... it is the fact they do not. But they have a chance to make it to future generations do to the iPod craze. And a decent size following (for good reason, mind you). So, I am looking for future coolness, but not a guarantee in this one. But the truth is... we shall see!

I agree with Rick here. If you look at who buys phones that cost this much and why they buy them you will see that this phone is lacking in some areas. One of those is the keyboard. People need some kind of tactile feedback on input devices. Touch screens may not cut it. Then you add in that they locked into one cell provider, albeit a large one, that limits there ability to market this phone. I think it will sell well, but will not have the penetration of other phones. I do not expect them to hit there 1% mark in the first year. I do think they can hit that mark with a future release, but not with this one.

Well, I was going to tell you in another thread that I don't go in for too much of the materialistic side of life. A car for example is strictly something to get me from point A to point B. But then Apple has to come out with a rather nifty little device .. and .. well .. I WANT ONE!

Well, I've just looked through the demos on the Apple site. They are all pretty much standard fare. The new interface for voicemail requires operator co-operation. You'd have thought Nokia could've pushed this through earlier -- it won't be long until all the handset manufacturers are doing something like it.

The multitouch interface is fantastic. If the platform is suitably open, developers are going to do amazing things with it.

The other, which tells me Apple 'gets' the phone interface like noone else, was the UI for assigning a photo as the background/desktop. You can zoom/centre a photo so that it focuses on what you want.

    Bingo.

Those things are going to sell like hotcakes.
