Hey try to make the cds into .dmg or .iso images, then mount them and install from them so that you dont have to use the optical drive.

If it's too hot to touch at the front of the case return it. Your fans are not working. Mine gets real hot right near the screen where it should, but not on the keyboard and definately not at the front. This was tested under full load.

you could always put it on top of an ice pack (and a towel so things don't get wet).

I hope mine doesn't do this. I ordered last week. Same specs as netjunkie above :) Good that Apple is doing something about it. Sucks that you had to experience such an issue.

I've had my macbook pro for about 1 week and a half and I haven't had any heating problems. My laptop is perfectly cool. However, I keep mine ontop of a antec computer fan and it works fine. Also I am brand new to the mac way of life. I have had other issues but not with heating. primarily I've had wireless issues with reception. My hard drive has 15 gigs of space that I can not account for and have no idea where they went.
