danielmiessler.com | grep understanding: Stop Telling Me There’s No Reason to Drink Bottled Water

  • Anthony · 1 year ago

I have no strong feelings about bottled water. However, if you still want to give it up, you should try this: http://www.waterstraws.com/</p>

Apparently they're good for up to 40 gallons, which should be good for about a year of drinking. I've never used one, but they sound cool.

40 or 50 gallons is not that much. At 1 gallon per person per day, that's not even 2 months not even close to a year. I buy reverse osmosis filtered water at my grocery store for 30 cents / gallon. Comes out to about the same cost per gallon as a lifestraw, but and is preferable than sucking on the same straw as every one else in my household.

Daniel, I agree. Our water sucks. Even super cheap bottled water down at the local Aldis (a store that specializes in generic brand groceries) tastes infinitely better than our tap. I mean, come on -- there is only so much beer I can drink to make up for it :-)

Who drinks a gallon of water a day? And if you're just doing a cost-benefit analysis, the price of these straws $15 / ~20-40 gallons far outweighs the cost of bottled water.

Ok, you make a point. But you don't offer a solution. Are you at all worried about the huge waste of resources, that comes with using bottled water. That is take 5 liters of water to produce each litre of bottled water, or is this the price you pay for being a water snob?

Keep in mind that bottle water has less stringent requirements than tap water. After you get used to tap water, it becomes no big deal to drink it.

I filter my tap water ........ here in Detroit we supposedly have some of the best tasting tap in the country . But if you drink filtered for a while you'll see it's like drinking pool water. over clorinated. disgusting.
