Well, I'm just going to have to throw Danny Carey's name in the hat, although youtube doesn't have any really GOOD videos of him playing...

Sorry Daniel, but I'm going to have to disagree. This guy was pretty good, but I don't think he comes close to Mike Portnoy. Portnoy has the speed, the style, and an awesome personality that makes him stand out from the rest. This guy might do a nice drum solo in a little studio for a little interview, but can he play like mad for three hours straight and entertain you like Portnoy? I doubt it. He barely had my attention throughout the video and I only kept watching to see if it got better... :)
@Robby
Ok, I just watched like 5 of his videos. This guy is not even in the same league as far as technique is concerned. Power? Style? Those are different and they come down to personal preference. I personally love this guy and have been listening to Dream Theater since the 80's, but as far as pure technical ability, no comparison.
@Verge
Damn. Dennis Chambers is sick. He's up towards the very top.
I dunno man. I only give that mullet a 5.
No one touches Neil Peart. That's un-American....er, Canadian.
Although a lot of my friends like Terry Bozzio.
Dude, Neil Peart is nothing compared to Dave Weckl. Attack yourself. I'll tell you when to stop.
While Dave Weckl is technically very good at drums, my personal feeling is that technical ability is only a portion of what makes drummers good, especially in situations when playing with other people.
My personal favorite is Jaki Liebezeit.
Have u heard Thomas Lang or Terry Bozzio? I think they play better tan weckl.. i like dave weckl too i went to his clinic last year and was pretty amazing but i just think that he cant compare to Lang or Bozzio
Buddy Rich
Art Blakey
Jeff "Tain" Watts
Chuck Webb
I got to see Buddy Rich live back in the 80s. My ears still hurt.
Danny Carey owns all. No one can come close to the power and talent that he has. I would love to see Dave Weckl playing any one of TOOLs songs holding a drumstick like that. hahaha. give me a break. and don't comment on my comment if you haven't seen tool live because you know jack sh!t.
Sorry guys. I know how you like the old school drummers. But Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan from Avenged Sevenfold blows anybody away. He's got everything down to a "T". Melody and style! Tell me if you don't agree. Cause if you don't, you're fuckin stoned!!!!
