I used to think I was being arrogant for saying I was an atheist. I mean, I don't actually know for certain that a higher power does not exist. However, I do strongly believe that we are "alone" as it were. I am not going to identity as an agnostic just because some Christians think that I am being close-minded, prideful, arrogant, stubborn, stupid, foolish or whatever else. One Christian told me that atheists only exist to be as arrogant as we feel they are, so that we can shout at the religious fanatics we oppose. They think that we purposefully take an extreme, polar opposite stand just so that we can laugh in their faces and ridicule them. That position in itself shows that it was that individual, not myself, who was truly arrogant.

Not true. "ism" is a suffix used for uncountable nouns to indicate adherence to a political or religious ideology. Atheism, however, is not an ideology, but simply a label with a negative connotation given by religious believers to people who do not have a religion or believe in a god.

Quite possibly evidence of something as defined by someone. Therefore without firsthand knowledge of the actual situation, people fill in the blanks. LOTS of blanks, with well, whatever suits them. therefore the ultimate truth may never be known, so by default everyone should be agnostic until the theory can be proven.

So what you are saying is that having knowledge is arrogant. And that studying and finding the irrefutable truth claims of the Bible should just be ignored. Well I don't know about you but I am glad that not all peoples adhere to this odd philosophy. On the other hand it is VERY interesting that you (atheists) want to indite those who believe in the miracle of creation when all those who believe in evolution (macro) also believe in miracles.

John Barrow and Frank Tipler in their book “The Anthropic Cosmological Principle” list 10 steps in the course of human evolution. Each of which is so improbable that before it would occur the Sun would have ceased to be a main sequence star and incinerated the earth. And they calculate the probability of the evolution of the human genome to be somewhere between 4 to the -180th power to the 110,000 power and 4 to the -360th power to the 110,000 power. So if evolution (macro) did occur on this planet it was literally a miracle and therefore evidence for the existence of God.

No, Agnosticism is separate from atheism. Agnosticism/gosticism deals with what you know or claim to know. Atheism/theism deals with what you believe. Most atheists (myself included) are agnostics. Most atheists admit they might be wrong, and a god might exist.
You don't get that from most theists, they all "know" they are right, even though they have no evidence on their side.
Also, I know I am right God (as defined by the Bible) does not exist, as he is an impossible being. He must be jealous, while never being jealous.

What makes atheists arrogant is that they absolutely know they're right. If they didn't, they'd be agnostic ~ but they're far too caught up "disproving" religion to admit that.

Iv had this conversation once or 2ice... Its not that atheists think their arrogant, its that the have a deep rooted belief in ignorance, that they need to defend. Just like every other religion, in order to have an answer to something that is far beyond the cutting edge of understanding.

Atheism is another ism.. Isms and anitys = the acceptance of ignorance. As ironic as it sounds they hey have staunch devotion to their God, which is an anti-God which is just as real as anti-matter. Still, I contend that all religious zelots have denied themselves one of the most fundamental rights of humanity; the ability to imagine and then pursue factual answers. Yeah I suppose its arrogant to believe you have the answer to something that you cant possibly understand... so in that respect..

When a person suffers a delusion, it's called insanity. When a group suffers the same delusion, it becomes a Religion.

It continually amuses me to see how all theists seem so offended by us Atheists. It also interests me to see how you take it so personally that there is a group out there that does not believe in your god, or indeed any god at all. Does anybody understand that the monotheistic religions are just a god for a few away from being Atheists?

I'm not sure where I read it (or something close):

And when the fundy's come a knockin' on my door I ask them if they believe in any other gods. when they say no I then say we are really not to much different since just believe in one less god than you.
(I think Dawkins has a quote that inspired this).
