hard to imagine how people can operate under such delusion. "the lord will take care of us". No, your husband works his ass off to take care of you.

I'm even more concerned that she'd disqualify someone based on his name.

Every time I visit, my mom says something about why she's voting for McCain/Palin. She's very impressed with McCain's decision of a running mate, and tells me that "the Democrats" have spread lies about her ignorance and lack of experience.

I remember once she told me she's voting for McCain because he would do more to "combat the terrorist threat."

For the most part I smile and nod and refuse to comment.

There needs to be a large and growing movement that pushes for the enforcement of separation of church and state. This is the bullshit that starts cultural wars and will inevitably be the end of the world.

It's hard not to have a misanthropic view of the world when I see stuff like this.

What a disgusting woman. I know I come to this blog usually defending the Republican right, but I couldn't even begin to understand where she is coming from. She dislikes Obama for things I respect him for. She likes McCain for none of the things I admire of him. And I cringed every time she did those condescending, holier-than-thou facial expressions. But seriously, she is an idiot. And just because an idiot has idiotic reasons for supporting a candidate, does not take away merit from that actual candidate.

Shane, the point I'm making here is that this is the type of person going to Palin rallies. Sure, there are some that aren't like this, but I PERSONALLY know MANY people like this--and they're all McCain/Palin supporters. Real people. Everyday people. This is not a fringe case. She's not an exception in her beliefs--only in how vocal she is.

So it's not a logical fallacy at all. I'm not setting up some non-representative example and claiming it applies to a group that doesn't share those opinions. No, in fact this IS the mentality of a significant portion of the McCain/Palin base.

Note that I differentiate true conservatives from this group. There are many true conservatives that are voting for McCain just to not get Obama. That's different.

What I'm saying is that there are TONS of people with precisely this view about Obama, and about the world, and that calling this woman an outlier is a huge mistake.

@Daniel: Oh whups, I didn't mean to imply you had encountered the logical fallacy. And I would also agree that more than enough of the McCain/Palin camp are like this; enough for it be scary and pathetic. Maybe it is just me but I hear Obama talk about his Christian faith often but I can't recall a single instance of McCain talking about his. But I guess Palin talks enough for both of them.
